Jia Yingchun is one of the Twelve Beauties of Jinling (refers to the twelve excellent ladies) in the book of the Dream of Red Mansions.

Jia Yingchun is the daughter of Jia She. Her father does not concern about her and her mother died when she was a child. She is so timid and overcautious that she always makes concessions in her life. She is also indifferent to the things happened around her. When one of her maidservants was found doing something wrong, she did not even say a word to help her. Instead, she was quite afraid of getting into the trouble.


At last, Jia Yingchun’s father asked her to marry into the family of Sun to pay his debts. However, she was mistreated to death by her husband not long after her marriage.

Her tragedy fate shows the guilt of feudal arranged marriage. She becomes the victim of her family and the feudal society. However, it is an inevitable result for her of such personality at that time.

Jia Yingchun is depicted as a kind but cowardly lady. The author shows sympathy towards her tragic fate, but also criticizes the feudal ethnic and her timid and overcautious personality. And her name also suggests her tragic fate.
